Susie Morgan is originally from Los Angeles and her passion for horses started at the early age of five years old. Inspired by attending pony rides and local classes with her father, Susie’s first riding lessons were at Leo Dupee stables, a Saddlebred stable in Culver City. By the age of 9, Susie was in the show ring. Susie has fond memories of attending countless shows with her father. Always working hard, doing well, and having a great time. Over the years, higher level shows taught her to ride aggressively and not to give up. This carried over to her teaching and training today. Being invited to “catch ride” a beautiful black gelding owned by Barbara Rovira in 1967 opened the door to a lifelong career in Morgan Horses. Susie became known for riding Barbara Rovira’s horses. The most famous horse, Waer’s Royal Hawk, was the high point Morgan for seven years. Susie got to be his pilot four of those. Susie was hired by Bob Morgan, Sr. in 1971 starting her professional journey with Triton Morgan Horses. 1972-1982 Susie operated California’s first public Morgan training stable in Livermore with Garn Walker with horses competing successfully up to the National level with the equitation riders always standing out. 1983 marked the opening of her own facility, “Susan’s Stable” in Southern California. Being acknowledged in Helen Crabtree’s revised edition of “Saddle Seat Equitation” was a highlight of her career. While located at Silver Oaks Ranch she trained 25 Saddlebreds and was able to jog and ride World Champion 5 gaited horse, Imperator. The most outstanding team of Sara Plumley and her Crown Corinthian won 27 Grand National and World titles in 1985-1987 in Hunter Pleasure, Western Pleasure and Stock Seat Equitation under Susie’s guidance and instruction. Susie’s daughter, Elizabeth, at age 10, had a great season (1989) in Western, winning 8 blues and 8 Championships for 17 and under.
The end of 2000 marked a return to Red Fox and Triton and joining forces with Bob Morgan. In re-building the breeding program they acquired broodmares and stallions. With the help of an infusion of Futurity Farm horses, the program moved ahead producing high end individuals quickly. Bob was awarded Region VII breeder of the year. Susie was awarded Trainer of the Year in 2000 and was awarded the Golden Reins Award for involvement and dedication as a Judge, clinician, convention speaker and panelist in 2005. Bob Morgan and Susie married in 2003 and moved Triton Morgan Horses to Hollister in 2004. They shared great pride in the outstanding horses they raised with their breeding program, consistently producing quality Morgan Horses true to the breed type and with excellent conformation and quality. Susie continues this tradition after losing Bob in 2024. She continues to teach and inspire people of all ages about Morgan horses, horse care and riding and driving. She rehabilitates horses into good health and soundness. An animal lover, she takes care of the barn cats, a small group of laying hens and enjoys the family dog, King Louie.

Merin was born and raised in the Bay Area. At the age of 6 she fell in love with horses, more specifically the Morgan horse, and never looked back! Winning multiple World and National titles as a Junior Exhibitor, she knew showing horses was more than just a hobby, they were her passion.Deciding to follow her dreams and make training a career, she moved to Maine and took the job as assistant trainer at RAND, one of the nations premier show barns. It provided her the opportunity to develop her skills and manage a large program. While it was a great learning experience, she always knew she wanted to have her own business in Ca.
In 2011 at the age of 21, Merin opened her operation, Maggi Stables. And thanks to many loyal customers, great horses and a huge support system, the business has established itself as a top program with many World, National and Regional champions.
From Junior horses to Junior Exhibitors and everything in between, Maggi Stables offers training /instruction in a wide variety of disciplines. Always with the focus on safe, sound horses and happy clients!
