~ An invitation to breeders ~
The MHAO Breeders' Cup Futurity debuted in 2010. Futurity classes are offered at the Oregon Morgan Classic Horse Show (OMC), the largest Morgan horse show in the state of Oregon and one of the largest in the Western Region. Funding for our futurity comes from the MHAO Stallion Service Auction which closes earlier in the year, from our sponsors, from donors, and any other fundraising done by the Futurity or stallion service auction committees.
If you are raising Morgan foals, please consider entering them in this futurity. Everyone is welcome to join us. Any foal owned by an MHAO member who is by any AMHA recognized Stallion and Dam is eligible to be nominated. Not a member of MHAO? Please join us! Then come show other Morgan owners & enthusiasts your vision of a Morgan horse. Our goal is to conduct a fun event that welcomes all. If you purchase a foal that is already nominated to the Futurity, their nomination status transfers to you. All you need to do is keep the foal current going forward.
MHAO Futurity classes are designed to follow your horse through its normal developmental process. Halter classes are available for weanlings through 2-year-olds. Performance classes are available starting with a 2-year-old pleasure driving class. For 3-year-olds along with a Pleasure Driving class there is a Park Harness class & Classic Pleasure Driving Class. Walk/Trot classes for English Pleasure, Classic Pleasure, Park Saddle, Hunter Pleasure, & Western Pleasure options. The same classes are offered for 4-year-olds but the saddle classes are Walk/Trot/Canter or jog classes. Click the button below to see the Futurity Rules.
2014 saw the debut of the annual High Point Futurity Award. This award was created and is sponsored by Anne Margaret Korver. Points for this award are earned by participating inFuturity classes throughout the 5-year Futurity program. You will find more information in the Futurity Rules.
2016 saw the debut of Futurity Sweepstakes halter classes for Futurity Yearlings & 2-yr-olds. The sweepstakes classes were something we had wanted to do for a long time. Any yearling or 2-yr-old placing 1st or 2nd in their regular Futurity halter class on Wednesday night could move forward to the Sweepstakes class for their age group on Saturday night & the chance to earn additional prize money.
Beginning in 2019 we created a mare recognition program for the dams of our Sweepstakes winners. These wonderful mares will be recognized in the Futurity booklet the following year and will receive a plaque honoring them. We have long been looking for a way to showcase Morgan mares in our program and are excited to have this addition. Mares make such an important contribution to our breed.
In 2023, we changed the structure of our halter classes. Due to the number of Sport & Western Working type breeders in our area, we now offer 2 full Divisions for Futurity halter: Traditional & Sport/Western. There is one Sweepstakes class for each Division for all horses placing 1st or 2nd in their qualifying class (weanlings, yearlings, & 2-yr-olds). We will pay bonus payments to the breeder and stallion donor for any Sweepstakes winners who are MHAO Stallion Service Auction get. No change was made to the performance classes offered or to the calculation for the Futurity High Point Award. Are you raising any Morgan foals? Come join us! We will continue to look for more ways for our participants to win money and to have fun with their horse/s.
