GENERAL: The MHAO Futurity was established in 2010 to aid in the promotion of horses owned by MHAO members. The Futurity is designed as a 5-year plan which follows a foal through its 4-year-old show season. The Futurity is sponsored by the Morgan Horse Association of Oregon (MHAO) and administered by its Futurity Committee, which consists of appointed MHAO members.
All correspondence should be sent to the Futurity Committee:MHAO Futurity Committee c/o Gay Adams16818 S Manor Dr Oregon City, OR 97045sunstonemorgans@comcast.netFax: (866) 761-0277
ELGIBILITY: Foals must be registered or be eligible to be registered as a Morgan through AMHA. Nomination of the foal is to be made by the owner of record or holder of a valid AMHA lease for an AMHA registered Morgan mare that is bred to an AMHA registered Morgan stallion at the time of the foal’s nomination. Foal owners or leasee’s must be members of MHAO or become members at the time of nomination &/or renewal. NOTE: Foals registered thru associations that have reciprocity with the AMHA are also eligible. Canada, Britan, & Sweden have reciprocity with AMHA.
INITIAL FOAL NOMINATION: Foals born or to-be-born in the current year may be nominated for $45 by year end or before they are shown at the Oregon Morgan Classic that year. For nominations after December 31st, see “Late Nomination Fee” in the following section for additional information.
Foals are considered nominated when an eligible mare owner or lessee breeds their mare to a Morgan stallion and submits the following to the Futurity Committee:1. Owner’s name, current address, and telephone number using a nomination form.2. Name & registration numbers of the sire and dam of the foal.3. An initial $45.00 nomination fee. (Make check payable to MHAO Futurity)
Online forms and payment options are available at www.morganhorseoregon.com or by contacting the Futurity Committee.
To remain in the futurity, annual renewal fees will apply through the horse’s 4-year-old year. Renewal fees need to be paid by March 31st each year.
LATE NOMINATION FEE: A late nomination fee of $100 will apply if a late nomination fee or re-nomination fee is accepted by the Futurity committee. However, no foal may be shown in a Futurity class unless their nomination fees are current. Information required in #1 and #2 above must be submitted to the Futurity Chair for validation. If a fee is paid late, this $100 fee replaces the normal nomination fee of $45 or re-nomination fee of $25.I’m a paragraph. Drag me to add paragraph to your block, write your own text and edit me. NOTE: Foals may be entered late through their 4-yr-old year if the owner/leasee is willing to pay a $100 late fee for each year they are late.
FOAL NOMINATION RENEWAL: The nomination of each Futurity foal entry must be renewed each successive year (whether or not it is shown) in order for the entry to be eligible for the current year and years going forward. The foal nomination may not drop from the Futurity for one year and re-enter for the next year.
A foal nomination will be considered renewed for the current year when the following has been submitted to the Futurity Committee on or before March 31st.1. Owner’s name, current address, and telephone number.2. Name and AMHA registration number of the sire and dam of the foal.3. Name, sex, and a copy of the foal’s AMHA registration. (Registration papers are required no later than the end of the foals yearling year).4. A $25.00 nomination renewal fee
TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP: If a foal is sold at any time, Futurity eligibility goes with the foal provided the new owner is or becomes a member of MHAO, payments have been made on time and continue to be paid promptly by the new owner until the final date.
CLASSES: Futurity classes will be held at the annual OREGON MORGAN CLASSIC HORSE SHOW (OMC), or any show designated as official by the MHAO Board of Directors. Futurity classes are independent of all other classes at the show or any other horse shows, and therefore have no affect on other high point awards or show championships. To be shown in Futurity classes, a horse must be nominated for the current year, and the owner must declare his/her intent to show (see Declaration). A horse need not be shown every year to continue in the Futurity. Classes will not be combined.
There are two separate halter divisions in the Futurity. The first division is for traditional type futurity halter classes. The second division is for Sport/Western futurity horses. Both classes follow normal USEF rules and the horses are judged against the Morgan standard. Horses in the Sport/Horse classes stand square to be judged. They are not shown on the triangle. Each futurity halter division offers the following classes:
Year One Classes: Weanling Foals In-Hand Division (2 classes)• Separate Classes for fillies and colts• No cross entry between futurity halter classes.Year Two Classes: Yearlings In-Hand Division (3 classes)• Separate classes for fillies, colts, and geldings • No cross entry between futurity halter classes.Year Three Classes (4 classes): Two-Year-Olds In-Hand Division (3 classes)• Separate classes for mares, stallions, and geldings• No cross entry between futurity halter classes.
To encourage participation and in the interest of safety; at the choice of the owner, a futurity weanling foal may be accompanied by their dam in the ring during adjudication. Only one handler is allowed per dam and must remain at a discreet distance so as not to interfere with the adjudication of the foal. All handlers must be dressed appropriately. Dams to be led in halter or bFridle only and be suitably groomed for presentation in the ring. USEF fees do not apply to Futurity classes. The World Futurity is a totally separate program and requires separate entry. Performance classes are offered starting with the futurity horse’s 2-yr-old year:Year Three Performance Class (1 class) Two-Year Old Futurity Driving ClassYear Four ClassesThree-Year-Old Performance Classes (8 classes – walk/trot/jog)• Classic Pleasure Driving• Pleasure Driving• Park Harness• Classic English Pleasure• English Pleasure• Park Saddle• Hunter Pleasure• Western PleasureYear Five ClassesFour-Year-Old Performance Classes (8 classes – walk, trot/jog, canter/lope, with extensions)• Classic Pleasure Driving• Pleasure Driving• Park Harness• Classic English Pleasure• English Pleasure• Park Saddle• Hunter Pleasure• Western Pleasure
Horses will be shown under the current US Equestrian Federation rules for Morgan classes but are not USEF approved classes. With the exception of the 3-yr-old saddle classes (which are walk/trot/jog), futurity performance classes do qualify the horse to show at Nationals.
SWEEPSTAKES CLASSES: Sweepstake Halter Classes were added starting in 2016 for yearlings & 2-yr-olds in-hand. To qualify to enter a Sweepstakes class, the Futurity foal must place 1st or 2nd in their regular Futurity halter class. Started in 2014
The MHAO Futurity was established in 2010 to aid in the promotion of Morgan horses. The Futurity is designed as a 5-year plan which follows an unborn foal through its 4-year old show season. To encourage and continue promotion of these horses a Futurity High Score Award was added, created and sponsored by Anne Margaret Korver starting in 2014. The incentive is a $$$$ payout to the current owner/s of the winner plus the horse’s name, sire, dam and breeder’s name engraved on a plaque to be displayed each year at the Oregon Morgan Classic Horse Show. The winner will also receive their own Award to keep.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1) The horse, including sire and dam, must be registered with the American Morgan Horse Registry.2) All the current and past owners during the Futurities 5-year period must be or were members in good standing of MHAO during their ownership of the horse.3) The horse’s original nomination and re-nominations for each year up to and including the final year of the plan must have been paid timely and be current.
The Futurity High Score Award will be for the graduating class of Futurity 4-year olds, Only Futurity classes at OMC will be counted. All Futurity In-Hand and Futurity Performance Classes qualify from weanling thru 4-year old.
Points will be tabulated as follows: Placing: 1 2 3 4 5 6 Points: 6 5 4 3 2 1
